Nissan Patrol GU Y61 Matte Black Moon Visor (1997-2016)
The Nissan Patrol GU Y61 Matte Black Moon Visor is the definitive exterior upgrade for owners who demand a flawless blend of classic retro-touring heritage and modern, aggressive stealth styling. Covering the entire legendary GU production run (1997–2016), this premium “moon” style cab visor transforms the front-end stance of your Patrol while providing critical protection against the harsh Australian elements.
Finished in a premium, UV-stabilised Matte Black, this visor is the ultimate centrepiece for blackout builds, tactical overlanders, and daily tourers alike. Upgrade your GU today with a Sunvisoss Matte Black Moon Visor and give your Y61 the head-turning, purpose-built aesthetic it deserves.
The GU Y61 Challenge: The Notorious Dash Crack & Greenhouse Effect
The Nissan Patrol GU is an undisputed outback legend, but its massive, upright windscreen acts like a greenhouse under the Australian sun. This relentless UV exposure is the primary cause of the notorious GU dashboard cracking and “sticky dash” syndrome, which can cost thousands to repair or replace. Furthermore, the sheer volume of glass creates blinding top-down glare during early morning and late afternoon highway runs.
At Sunvisoss, we’ve engineered the ultimate preventative solution. Our GU Matte Black Moon Visor casts a permanent, cooling shadow over the top of your dashboard, drastically reducing cabin temperatures and blocking the UV rays that destroy GU interiors. Manufactured from heavy-duty, UV-stabilised fibreglass/ABS composite, it is built to withstand 60°C+ roof temperatures without warping, fading, or turning chalky.
Performance & Aesthetics First: The Matte Black “Stealth” Advantage
Why choose the Matte Black Moon Visor for your GU Patrol?
- Aggressive Stealth Styling: Gloss black shows every water spot, fingerprint, and speck of red dust. Our premium Matte Black finish offers a rugged, tactical, “built-not-bought” aesthetic that perfectly complements matte wheel wraps, blacked-out grilles, stealth flares, and tactical overland builds.
- Period-Correct “Moon” Profile: The classic, sweeping curved profile provides superior windscreen coverage compared to flat, modern visors. It blocks low-angle sun glare while maintaining the iconic, retro-touring silhouette that GU enthusiasts love.
- Superior Interior Protection: Acts as a physical shield against blinding top-down glare and harsh UV rays, significantly reducing cabin heat and protecting your original or restored dashboard from sun damage.
- Aerodynamic & Rattle-Free: Precision-moulded to follow the exact contour of the GU roofline, eliminating wind lift, drag, and the annoying highway whistle that plagues cheap, poorly designed visors.
Precision OEM Fitment for Patrol GU Y61 Wagon (1997–2016)
Engineered specifically for the Nissan Patrol GU Y61, this moon visor offers a seamless, factory-integrated appearance. The beauty of the GU platform is that the 4-door wagon roofline and windscreen rake remained identical from its 1997 launch right through to the end of its Australian run in 2016.
- Universal GU Wagon Compatibility: Designed to fit all GU Y61 4-Door Wagons (Series 1 through Series 8), including ST, ST-X, and Ti models.
- Premium Mounting Hardware: Supplied with heavy-duty, stainless steel mounting brackets, high-tensile bolts, and a precise drilling template to ensure a secure, rattle-free installation that won’t compromise your roof seals.
- Authentic Matte Finish: The matte black gel-coat/paint finish is treated with a UV-resistant matte clear coat to prevent fading, ensuring it stays stealthy, tough, and dust-hiding for years to come.
Crucial Fitment Note: This moon visor is specifically designed for the GU Y61 4-Door Wagon. It will NOT fit the 2-door SWB (Short Wheel Base), Utes, or Panel Vans due to distinctly different roof curvatures and windscreen angles.
Versatile Use: Tactical Builds, Outback Touring & Daily Driving
The Nissan Patrol GU Y61 Matte Black Moon Visor suits a wide range of demanding applications across Australia:
- Stealth & “Blackout” Builds: The perfect finishing touch for a fully blacked-out GU, tying together aftermarket grilles, matte wheels, and tinted windows with a cohesive, aggressive theme.
- Outback Touring & Expeditions: Protect your eyes from glare and your classic GU dash from the harsh Aussie sun during long hauls to Cape York, the Simpson Desert, or remote camping spots.
- Daily Driving & Commuting: Reduce eye strain and keep the cabin noticeably cooler during the daily school run or highway commute.
- Show Cars & Club Meets: Turn heads at Nissan Patrol or Custom 4×4 Club events with a finish and fitment that screams quality, heritage, and attention to detail.
Easy Installation & DIY Friendly for 4×4 Owners
Installation is straightforward for any 4×4 enthusiast with basic tools and a helper. This GU moon visor kit comes with the pre-finished matte black visor, heavy-duty mounting brackets, stainless steel hardware, and a precise drilling template.
Pro Installation Tip: For a permanent, rattle-free, and leak-free hold, we highly recommend cleaning the roof mounting area thoroughly with alcohol wipes and applying a high-quality automotive sealant (like Sikaflex) to the back of the mounting brackets before bolting them through the roof skin. This prevents water ingress and eliminates the classic “rattling visor” syndrome on rough corrugations.
Premium Quality at an Honest Price for Patrol Enthusiasts
Custom-sprayed or fabricated matte black moon visors from specialty 4×4 shops can easily cost upwards of $600–$900, often with long wait times. At Sunvisoss, we provide premium, ready-to-install, stealth-styled heritage accessories at a price that respects your build budget.
When you choose a Sunvisoss Matte Black GU Moon Visor, you’re investing in long-term interior protection, authentic custom styling, and the unmistakable look of a true Australian 4×4.
